| I thought a thread like this one will be quite helpful and needed. Over the years, we as kimono lovers and geisha enthusiasts have seen many auctions of maiko and geiko hikizuri, darari obi, kanzashi and other items. Some of them we won, and many we lost, but what matters is that no matter what, it is interesting to find the former owners of those treasures. It is not an easy task to track down photos of all hikizuri or darari, specially when they are antique or have no crest, but yet since most of us see a good hand of maiko and geiko photos daily, maybe we could have seen the piece before. I think that for most owners of geisha items, it is very important to have a photo of the maiko wearing the hikizuri they got in an auction, because with that photo they can track back the history, the usage and the life of the kimono. This gives a lot more of value and importance to the piece. When I look to my geisha's hikizuris, I often think: "Where have you been? what are the memories you have carved in your silk? who was the woman who wore you? was she an elegant dancer? which dances did you participated in? was your former owner happy to wear and show your beauty?" I know, this sounds quite poetic, but I am an artist myself, and I also often wonder what happened to the works I gifted. And for sure a kimono can live centuries and travel a lot! If you for some reason find any maiko or geisha wearing a kimono or obi that you saw for auction in the past, feel free to post it here. This applies of course for auctions or sales going on right now. I'm sure this will help many hikizuri owners to find more about their pieces. | |

| I'm starting with this maiko hikizuri and darari obi. The auction was on YJA and ended today. The seller ID was jakuyuboss and the final prices were varied.(I'm giving the seller and price informations just for future reference) This blue hikizuri ended up by 69,200 JPY. It belonged to Umeno Okiya from Kamishichiken. It was worn by maiko Umechie. ©Iniwa©Milestone505The pink hikizuri ended up by 14,200 JPY, and it was also from Umeno Okiya. ©Umeno Okiya©Umeno OkiyaThe purple hikizuri ended up by 38,900 JPY, and it belonged to Umeno Okiya too. ©love_child_kyoto©Umeno OkiyaWhite darari obi that ended up by 91,000 JPY. ©Onihidebeing worn by Umehisa. ©TamayuraWorn by Umeyae. | This is a wonderful idea. Keeping track of items that are linked to actual geiko or maiko will make a wonderful research tool in the future. There should also be a topic on okiya mon ( crests ) as there are so many in use some with subtle differences so that it looks like it could be anyone of a number of okiya Looking forward to seeing this forum grow | |

Yes, everything that was used by maiko or geiko counts to this thread. Thank you so much for your contribution! It is very interesting to know which maiko or geisha worn a particular item. If you didn't share the Makino's photo of the black hikizuri, I would never connect both, since the design is so detailed. | |

| there were a series of maiko collars that went up for auction last winter. I think I might have found the original owner. Mineko Iwasaki-san! I did not purchase any of them, as they were far too expensive for me. I hope someone did! I will upload the images I saved when they were for auction. Please, someone let me know if you can see these pictures. <3 And here is the original owner in her home - laying out those same collars. you can clearly see the kiku flower one at the bottom of the photo!!! I hope someone who will love them, purchased them! I think they were worn by the maiko of Iwasaki-san's okiya. | |
